Quote from Shotglass :the fzrs tyres almost looks like they came from monster trucking in comparison

Sorry, but no.
Those tyres almost look like the same if you look at them closely.
Does anyone have a tool to measure the height and width of the GTR tyres? I bet they are at least almost the same.

Tyres in Motorsports are as high as neccessary to keep the lateral grip as long as possible by flexing the tyre walls. And they are as low-profile as possible to keep a sharp reaction. So F1 tyres allow the chassis to move a little more while keeping the contact patch planted on the grey stuff, thus gripping very well.
I remember The XRR having 18 inch wheels on the rear axle and 19ers in the front, I just don't know how wide and high the tyres actually are.

So what are you using your 4 cores for? It might be the best quad for gamers, but there are few games out using all of them. The normal gamer doesn't need more than 2 (most of the time only 1) cores, I can't load my 6550 cores by just playing lfs and running fraps, psp and other stuff... so imo it might be better to get a fast processor, maybe undervolt it at the same speed and spare the active cooling.... naaah, now I'm getting a bit too high :-)

in that case 3870 definately. It's faster than the 9600, and it should handle lfs and other games good enough (I'd say you won't go under 150fps with that cpu/gpu combo).

hmmm... can you buy the stuff over the internet? I presume even when you buy the stuff from a shop outside Portugal it still might be a lot cheaper than where you seem to get it. Plus you get everything you really want! c2d8400 looks great for your needs btw.
Have you checked any portuguese shops on teh interweb yet? How expensive are they?
Hope I can help

Don't take a quad core with only 1066MHz FSB, it's completely useless and doesn't fit with the rest of the system. A C2D 8x00 might be the better choice. More cache, less useless (while idle) cores and maybe even cheaper.
Also why is the 4850 not coming out soon (just as a question, don't want to flame you in any way)? Can't you wait for let's say another week or two and get the best you can get for little money?

Naah, initially I've just tried to be funny...

But buying an overpriced, overhyped card instead of something faster from the new generation seems odd to me.
After all it's always the buyer's descision, and since I still have got a much slower card I should keep my mouth shut .

Oh, and getting back to the heat problem: The coolers don't seem to be the best, but there has to be something wrong when idle temps are almost hitting the 80s...
I'm quite keen on keeping my system cool and quiet, my gfx never goes up to 60 (1 slot, almost the same heatsink, just kept it on because I'm waiting for a decent new card). All I did was opening one of the slots under the card, so it can blow out the hot air instead of onto the board only.
But partially you're right, they shouldn't sell a 106W card with that kind of cooling system...

Oh god why o' why did you buy an 8800 GPU?

Good luck with your PC getting reasonable frames.

Erm... where do you know THAT from? I've just heard it was quite quiet, no heat problems atm... The cooler doesn't LOOk very nice, yet the card produces less heat than the 3870.

EDIT: Facts ,taken from alternate.de:

Asus EN9800GTX/HTDP (250€!!) takes up to 160W
Asus EAH4850/HTDI (160€) only needs 106W and therefore can work without that monster of a cooler! At about the same speed!

Remember, the Asus is a 4850, Club 3D sells a 3870 which is much slower, though it has ddr4!!

THere is no Asus 4850 in your link. However, since the card is brand new there are atm no differences in design or specs. They all look exactly the same, even the cooler is stock ati. So choose whichever you like most.
If there were a GDDR4 card, I'd personally watch the price and take the better one if it's not significantly more expensive.

As I said, I'd definately go for the 4850, not 3870 (if the shop has it), the 3870 is great too, but why not take the next generation when it's only a few bucks more?! Apart from that the system seems pretty decent and will play lfs and other games just fine.

Do you have problems using non-standard cars in singleplayer sessions? have you tried using the FZ50 or a GTR car?

Quote from Crashgate3 :I'm hearing very good things about ATi's new 4850 cards which are only marginally more expensive that the 8800GT and a good deal faster.

same here, 4850 turned out to be about as fast as the 9800gtx while consuming less power and being a lot cheaper...

let's just carry on, nothing happened.
Dimex: Do you have problems while playing in single player mode?
Do you have the problem only on blackwood or also somewhere else?

sli is a way to put 2 graphics cards into your rig, they communicate with each other and you get about 30% more speed out of the system. Personally I find that useless, since every month there are new cards coming out that beat expensive sli systems...

Good question that is.
Do you get this error on other tracks or other cars in single player mode? For example FZ5 at South City Singleplayer?

Hey!

IMO you can choose whichever processor, I've gone with an intel c2d 6550. It is more expensive (also the mainboard since the memory controllers sit on that) but it has lower heat production and uses less energy. Also the intel has much more 2nd level cache, this seems to help when it comes to lfs fps... But since I don't know what it exactly does I better keep my trap shut about that...
2gigs of Ram are plenty, should be alright with anything you run.
I'd also go with xp though, works fine here, no power-hungry vista eye-candy needed.
You definately can scale down the psu, 550 watts are something for sli systems. I run a 450, max power consumption (c2d6550, 2600xt, 2hds, wheel, speakers) is about 170W!! Look for a good and silent 400-450 instead.
Case and Mainboard would be a bit too much for my needs... why take an sli board when you don't use it? I don't know about what's the best chipset for AM2 boards, maybe someone else can help out with that.
I've taken a cheapass sharkoon rebel9 tower... keeps the dust out and once you've installed everything it's nice and cool. Tape the unneccessary holes and the airstream is decent (tempsload: 35°C, idle: 28).
Graphicwise I've got a good hint: Ati 4850. This one is a blast, uses 106W max, costs about 150-160€ (alternate.de) and is about as fast as the nvidia 9800gtx!!! I wonder why noone has seen this thing yet...

hope I could help a bit.

One thing: instead of manually exiting the rcm could you make a "clear message" button? That would definately make the app prefect for a noooob like me!

shut up with this stupid discussion already! I really can't hear it anymore! Winters are less snowy, we've got quite nice hailstorms going on a few times every year, summers are stupidly hot for a too long time. fact. I don't f***ing care who's fault it is and who throws arguments at the other guy, just to be the last one to tell ridiculously sad facts that have nothing to do with anything. You're pissing me off with your half knowledge and arguments based on lies and wrong conspiracy theories, sorry.

Phew...calm down, think about what you wanted to write....

I quite like the fact you're "going green", Becky. So when are you planning to marry Jackg? :-)
I sold (rolled) my car about 5 years ago, since then I had to move twice and bought two bicycles. I hate public transport, so I always had the choice either to walk or take the bike.

This is the one I use for driving to uni each day, during summertime with slicks, nobbly tyres and fenders for winter time.

This is "Bolle", made for rougher grounds. Usually I take this one for tours with my girlfriend. Pretty handy here, near the alps.

I really love riding bikes. Though being somewhat exhausted after a trip I feel a bit better (once the pain has gone :-)), and if I'm stressed by the idiots at work/uni/whatever, I just kick the frustration away. This way I can go a bit faster, I can't get fined and the hormons calm down a bit. around the outer city rings I'm a bit slower than the cars, the nearer I get to the center, the faster I can go. Sure you always have to be very careful concerning cars, buses and pedestrians, but at least I don't have the smell and humidity in public transport, I don't have to sit in a hot car when it's warm outside, I don't have to care about fuel prices, ice on the windows, .................
Lowest temperature I hop on the bike is -15°C though, if it drops below that I'd need to wear my salopettes, and those would be ruined by the chain ring.

So if you can get a decent bike, take a good saddle as well (important especially for a woman, hint:brooks b17) and scrap the moped, you might be faster than those pimply kids on their tuned plastic scooters in no time!

In real life there is a switch somewhere between the brake pedal and the main cylinder. You touch the brake and from a certain point your brake lights are being switched on. In the old Mini I could brake fairly hard (compared to your screenie) until the switch was shut and the lights turned on.
So please keep calm, and if you've got no RL experience don't tell us that something needs a fix.

let's keep on thinking about different cheats F1 teams could use... inflating their tyres with compressed HOT air, brooding like a hen (imagine 4 big guys sitting on the tyres), "accidentally" setting the car on fire real quick, doing topfuel-like burnouts, first with front- then rear wheels on the rear axle,...
And: They could put some mechanics on the grandstands. They would have to follow the car's way and focus sunlight on the tyres while it's driving, using little beauty mirrors!!!

4th option would fit quite well, the hud can be disabled when the mouse is on the control bar. You wouldn't want to look at it anyway when you're about to ffw/rw the replay.
